It was troubling to hear some sentiment from the media after the FAI’s appearance at the Oireachtas Committee this week “same old FAI who can't be trusted with government money, can't run their own organisation, the Delaney era culture still exists within the FAI”
As a club we fully endorse the comments from Christopher O’Sullivan, Fianna Fail TD for Cork South West “this impacts grassroots football, these are the ones that suffer - funding was withheld for a good period of time because of issues with in the FAI, Jonathan Hill isn’t going to be impacted Roy Barrett isn’t going to be impacted, the people who are impacted is grass roots soccer – we need investment in grassroots football”
As you all know capital sports funding is pivotal to our plans for developing Gortnaglough into a Community facility, without question offering an opportunity to increase sports participation for girls, boys, men, women, advantaged and disadvantaged in a multitude of sports right across our community.
We've said it before, as a club we have struggled in the past to compete with other sporting organisations for a fair share of government funding.
We encourage decision makers not to destroy our ambition for increasing participation in sports. Don’t penalise our club for the sins of the FAI.
Our club has good gender balance, good transparency, good compliance, we have delivered.
Now is the time to invest in grassroots football.
